Biotechnology Australia is a multi-departmental Commonwealth agency,
responsible for co-ordinating non-regulatory biotechnology
issues. It encompasses five Commonwealth Departments:
- Department of Industry, Science and
Resources;
- Department of Education, Training and
Youth Affairs;
- Department of the Environment and
Heritage;
- Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and
Forestry - Australia;
- Department of Health and Aged Care.
Biotechnology Australia also works closely with the following
Commonwealth agencies:
- Interim Office of the Gene Technology
Regulator;
- Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial
Research Organisation; and
- Food Standards Australia New Zealand.
