Modern biotechnology includes:

  • reproductive technologies - ways of influencing reproduction in humans, other animals and plants; and
  • gene technology - ways of manipulating the genetic make-up of plants, animals and microorganisms to alter crops and herds for our purposes, or to improve human health, or in attempts to solve ecological problems.
