The newest version of the Java-based programming environment for enterprise applications includes a new specification for Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB), Sun said in a statement. EJBs define standards for how certain server applications should be written and are intended to make it faster for developers to write those applications.

Last month at Sun's JavaOne conference in San Francisco, the company said support for Java among corporate software vendors continues to grow. As proof of that growth, Sun said that in less than a year, the number of third-party products that passed Sun's J2EE test suite had gone from one to 18.

Sun, in Palo Alto, California, can be reached at +1-650-960-1300 or at http://www.sun.com/.
